answers to questions it would be rude to ask

here's some advice: never do anything nice for your house.
it's like pulling a thread on a sweater. before you know it, the whole thing's unraveled.

so i've been trying to restore gertrude (the front bedroom) to a usable state. this involves relocating all the things that were added to her when the living room and dining room had to be vacated.

but the esthetic in the living room and dining room is revised: more spare. which is to say, there's more furniture in gertrude than is going back into the living room and dining room.

i've sold a couple of pieces on craigslist (yay!), but i'm reluctant to part with the lawyer bookcases. only one really fits in the living room now. fine. i'll put the other upstairs in my room, where it can displace the bookcase i have my altar on now. i can sell that or give it away.

yesterday i dragged the extra lawyer bookcase up the stairs, one at a time, bump, bump, bump. (i taped a piece of cardboard to the side to protect it.) i maneuvered it into place.

i hated it there.

i looked around, and decided the grey steel shelving i put in a couple of years ago, in one of my fits of get-organized-or-die-trying, is now, in fact, an eyesore. it is a tower of clutter, in one of the places my eye naturally falls. it is stuffed with stuff.

yes, it's a lot of work to go through the stupid thing and figure out what stays and what goes. much of it is miscellaneous tech. b.h.e. has boxes and boxes of similar lurking in gertrude. we should do a joint purge.

this evening i boxed up the contents of the grey shelves and moved some of them into gertrude. i hate going backwards. the natural direction of things is *out* of gertrude. i moved the shelves into gertrude as well.

somebody on freecycle will be delighted to get them, i'm sure.

so now the altar bookcase is back where it was. the lawyer bookcase is where the grey shelves used to be. it takes up much less space, which is a mercy. the rest of my room: trashed. i hardly know where to start.

and i have people coming over thursday evening. woe. what have i done? why did i insist on pulling that thread?

Comments:
Right. Pulling the thread of organization is akin to that annoying hangnail that has to be removed or something "dreadful" will happen.
It's related to forced confinement. All sorts of must be done things start circling around in your head.
From your head they move on to someone who has ability. That someone soon loses patience with your overwhelming amount of prone productivity.
I finished another list. Waiting for a response. Just told her where to look for replacement parts for the stove. Life is--fill in the blank--quickly!
Judith

life is what happens while you're making other plans. life is a chair of bowlies. life is a cabaret, old chum.

life is a sneeze.

do i win?

After much thought I've decided that life just is. It's basically what we want it to be, or with what others wish it would be, but it just is.
There is an opposite to everything.
Deep in thought. Deep in symbolism.

You win--this round--because I became lost on the road to someone else's reality.
Wolf Woman

when you're on the road to someone else's reality, you're already lost.

just sayin'.

hugs,
jean
